Principal's Message

My name is Juan Gutierrez, and I am proud to serve as the principal of Thomas A. Edison Elementary School. I have had the honor of working in the Long Beach Unified School District for thirty-one years, and this marks my twenty first year as a school administrator. There is no other work I would rather do than supporting students, teachers, and families—it truly is my passion and purpose. My goal is to work hard every day to continue building upon and improving the strong foundation we have here at Edison.

Our dedicated office staff and administrative team are here to serve and support you. While we encourage you to read the Parent Handbook posted on our website and our Parent Newsletter, we welcome your questions and invite you to reach out for any clarification. Most importantly, the safety of our students remains our top priority. For this reason, all parents, guardians, and visitors are required to sign in and out through the front office. I also ask for your cooperation in keeping our school zone safe by driving the speed limit, parking in designated areas, avoiding blocked entrances, refraining from parking lot drop-offs, and following all traffic laws. Together, we can ensure the safety of all Edison families.

At Edison, we hold high expectations for both academic achievement and behavior for every student. Our staff continues to engage in professional development that sharpens instructional practices, strengthens curriculum knowledge, and ensures we provide the very best learning experiences for our students. I am excited to work alongside our dedicated teachers as we help Edison scholars develop a growth mindset, essential life skills, and strong problem-solving abilities—all of which prepare them for college, career, and beyond.
